Finally Finished "Serenity"! My Newest Terra Human Painting

I am so so excited to introduce you to my newest Terra Human painting titled “Serenity”! This 30"x48" painting required several months of dedicated work (some of which while I had COVID) but it was worth it so create something that I am really proud of. As you will read in my description this painting is about finding "a place to retreat to when it hurts too much to be anywhere else." It's no secrete that I've been dealing with moderate health issues on and off for about a year now and something that has helped he through the pain and uncomfortability has been visualizing imagined places that are calming and safe for me. A place that is sheltered from the hardship of the outside world were I can feel centered and at peace. And this painting ended up being a visual manifestation of this concept.
I hope that "Serenity" can inspire you to find your own mental fortress that can bring you peace and acceptance.

Painting Description

He knew that he needed to search at night. There was no other time that would give him the complete silence that he needed to walk with purpose. After hours upon hours of trudging through jagged rocks, thick bushes and patches of snow he finally passed through a thick layer of mist and found himself illuminated by the light of the moon above the clouds.

Once he found his footing he finally lifted his head and what he saw pulled the breath from his lungs.  After searching for so many years he had almost given up on the idea of finding this exact place of solace, somewhere he could go to in the darkest of times, a place to retreat to when it hurts too much to be anywhere else. A location so remote and peaceful that it cannot be penetrated by any malice or pain no matter how hard the outside world tries. And sleeping atop these mountains was a piece of him that he never knew existed. A part of him that could truly rest and feel a complete oneness with this environment. From this distance, he could just barely see her chest move in and out with every long breath. Her peace allowed him to finally feel safe and he began to understand himself absent from any other viewpoints. In finding this place he discovered a serenity that had evaded him his entire life.

"Walking Giants" New Newest Terra Human Painting!

I'm incredibly proud to bring you my newest Terra Human painting "Walking Giants." This piece is the result of approximately 185 hours of focused and diligent work and I'm really happy with how it turned out.
Now usually I like to tell you that "I really enjoyed working on this piece!" But that wouldn't be entirely true with this one. Honestly this painting process had a lot of ups and downs with plenty doubt looming around in my head. I had some days when I felt really optimistic about the piece and was convinced it would be my best painting yet. But I also had other days when I thought this piece was too much to handle and it would be a waste of time. I just kept telling myself that if I continued to persevere and allowed my identity to come through the brushstrokes, then the piece would turn into something special.
In the end I think it's okay that this piece wasn't 100% awesome to work on everyday. I think the struggle makes it that much more meaningful to me and I now feel really accomplished to have conquered this project. I really hope that this piece brightens your day and prompts you look inward.
I will be posting this full piece with it's description soon so be on the look out for that!

✍🏻 This painting addresses the concept of humility. There is so much that we can obtain and achieve in our lives that it’s easy to forget the vastness of space and time as well as our small part in this infinite world.  We are seen in this painting traversing this world with true humility and a willingness to learn. As we walk we take care not to crush even the smallest plants and animals because we understand that all life plays an important role on this planet. As the luminous sunrise bathes the surrounding cliff edges with color and warmth we are reminded of the seemingly infinite amount of time this planet has been alive and changing. And we start to understand that our time here is short yet meaningful and there is much good that we can do if we walk tall and care for those who are both bigger and smaller than us.

New Painting Finished!

The sunrise in this piece was based off a photo I took in Yellowstone National Park during our road trip last summer. The sun had just peaked over the trees and was shrouded in mist from the river below.

I think my favorite thing about this piece and the original scene if the mood. The mist and the water below the figure make it feel so quiet and serene. As if these scene takes place before all the birds and animals are awake and you feel secluded and safe.

Like most of my other Terra Human paintings, this piece started with the figure and from there I added the background nature components. I enjoy starting with the figure because I want to human to be the focus of the image and I usually spend most of my time working on the figure and adding detail.

Here is the photoshopped version that I created before the painting. I can see some difference that we choices that I made and some that were mistakes. Once I am finished with a piece I always see things that I can change and adjust but sometimes you need to just allow a painting to exist for what it is and try to improve on the next one.
