“Half Life”

In a different reality from our own I would have lived a half life. Mourned as a young star who burned bright but was extinguished too quickly, forever 32 and remembered for his beautiful paintings and kind smile. Denied the pain and pleasure of growing old because of a microscopic glitch in his system. Survived by a wife who wanted nothing but more for him but to be happy and fulfilled. But in this reality I have just begun my second life, not mourned as a memory but celebrated for my fight to stay. Given the ultimate gift of time.
