Hello! I thought it would be fun to reignite my throwback posts using pieces from my solo show! I hope you enjoy seeing these fun comparisons, seeing how my skills and ideas have developed over the years. Just as a disclaimer, this is not me bashing on my past work at all! I’m simply trying to highlight how my process, ideas and skills have changed over the years.
So I thought it would be fun to do a few throwback Thursday comparisons with my solo show paintings to see how things have changed over the years!
In case you are new here, this is NOT a way to bash my old work or devalue it more it’s an opportunity to see how my priorities have changed. And honestly while my skills with rendering realism have gotten better over the years, that has greatly decreased the amount of abstraction that I put into my work. (Which I used to like)
Anyways I hope you enjoy this first comparison between “Disappearance” and “One Hundred Years”
I think it shows my development with color, detail and a realistic light source.
Let me know what you think!

What a difference 10 years can make! I don’t usually compare paintings this far apart but I honestly find this very inspiring. Once I started to understand that painting and creativity we just skills that could be developed with hard work and patience my paintings steadily got better and better and my mindset changed. Even though I’m professional, I still think of myself as a student to the craft. I’m always trying to learn and improve by working hard and embracing my curiosities.
Anyways I think this photo speaks for itself ☺️

I thought this would make for a fun throwback Thursday comparison! I made the 2011 piece in my summer between high school and college when I was starting to learn more about oil painting and what I liked making with it. And the 2022 piece was one of my most recent 5x5s for a show with Abend Gallery.
I think that once I discover my enjoyment of painting people it REALLY motivated me to work hard to improve my skill.
I’m very lucky to have found a painting system that works for me so that I can enjoy the process of creation. I encourage any other artists to just keep at it and experiment with difference methods and subjects so that you can figure out what works for you.
